Sumoboo, Pantai Indah Kapuk

Hi!

The very first review on this blog is going to be about Sumoboo!

Yes, it's the famous dessert house located at Pantai Indah Kapuk. It's not hard to find Sumoboo, since it's usually packed with people queuing outside to get their hands on Sumoboo's desserts especially on weekend. Gosh, when I went there it was Sunday and I have to wait for at least 30-45 minutes to finally get in. If you're familiar with PIK area, it's located near Ikkudo Ichi and La Creperie.

Unlike any other Taiwanese dessert houses, Sumoboo has Japanese concept. The place itself is somewhat cute. It's dominated with yellow color and has 2 levels. The 1st level looked cozy, with bright lighting but still looked warm. The 2nd level is divided into outdoor (smoking), and indoor. But what I liked about the outdoor area is they still have air conditioner so it's not that hot.

Okay enough with the babble, let's move on to the desserts!

I decided to order 2 desserts. First I order Sumoboo Dessert 5 (35K)

First impression, the wood eating utensils looked adorable! About the dessert, I thought that there's not many difference with other Taiwanese dessert. But boy, I was wrong! First, it consists of Bomb ball, big boba, mochi, ice cream, red bean, pudding and taro. It's much, isn't it? The white thing inside the little cup is creamer. Basically you just pour it into the bowl. For me I think it is worth the price plus slightly cheaper than the much hyped Taiwanese dessert next door. For the taste, I don't find any big difference compared to other Taiwanese dessert except that it consists of more ingredienst.

The 2nd dessert is their famous Nutella Bomb (15K)

We waited for this dish for quite some time and had to repeatedly ask the staff to bring the dish out but they told us to wait because they're still boiling the mochi. And when it finally reach our table, it was still warm and when I carefully slice the mochi, the Nutella filling was oozing right out!

Nutella goodness!

It consists of 3 mochi generously filled with Nutella and sprinkled with either Milo powder or Ovaltine powder. My favorite was this dish and I wish I wasn't that full so I could order another one. It was definitely worth the price since they were filling the mochi generously!

The menu does not only consists of regular Taiwanese desserts, but there are things like coconut soup, rice dishes (donburi, etc.), Japanese hotdogs, tori popcorn, and many more.

Overall it was a nice visit, and I'll comeback for sure! The only thing I hate was the service. But it was just one staff that treated us 'badly', the other staff was friendly so it wasn't a big problem. Other than that, the desserts was good and affordable. If you're looking for different take on the usual Taiwanese dessert, you should definitely consider Sumoboo as your next destination.
